Morocco-Gabon: a perfect convergence of point of views

03/09/2014 (press release: media1press)

Morocco and Gabon issued a joint statement Friday as HM King Mohammed VI ended his visit to Gabon.

The statement highlighted the following points:

1/ Morocco and Gabon emphasized the need to set up, as soon as possible, a bilateral business council in order to give impetus to their economic cooperation. HM King Mohammed VI and President Ali Bongo “strongly reaffirmed the need for” the rapid setting up of a Moroccan-Gabonese business Council. This council will serve as a mechanism to boost economic ties in order to match the excellent political relations between Gabon and Morocco.

2/ Gabon has welcomed the new migration policy implemented by Morocco to promote the integration of foreigners, mainly from sub-Saharan Africa, into the Moroccan society.

3/ Morocco and Gabon expressed their steadfast attachment to peace, security and stability in the Republic of Central Africa. Underlining their shared viewpoint on the situation in Central Africa, HM King Mohammed VI and the Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba reaffirmed their strong commitment to peace, security and stability in this country, and welcomed the active support of ECCAS, France and the international Community. The two Heads of State took note of the change that took place in the Central African state in January 2014, calling on the new authorities to preserve civil peace and to establish a political dialogue between the lifeblood of Central Africa, in conformity with the Libreville agreements of January 11, 2013.

4/ His Excellency Ali Bongo Ondimba renewed the unwavering and continuous support of the Gabonese Republic for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. On this occasion, the leader of the Gabonese state stressed that “the peaceful and lasting solution to this regional dispute can only be achieved on the basis of the Moroccan initiative to grant the Sahara region a broad autonomy under the sovereignty, the national unity and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco”. This innovative and constructive initiative is compatible with the standards of international law and is perfectly in line with the resolutions of the UN Security Council. The Gabonese President also reaffirmed the importance it attaches to the return of Morocco in the pan-African organization.

5/ Morocco and Gabon have reiterated their commitment to the “inalienable” rights of the Palestinian people to a viable and sovereign state, in the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Asharif as its capital. HM King Mohammed VI and HE Ali Bongo Ondimba considered that the resumption of negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis since July 2013 represents a decisive step towards peace in the Middle East.
